Bio

Dr Michelle Barnes is an advanced paediatric trainee registrar at The Children’s Hospital at Westmead. She completed a PhD examining the symptomatic and serologic epidemiology of pertussis in Australia, which had significant impact on Australian immunisation policy.

Dr Barnes will commence part time research with CRE in 2014. Her projects will include an immunogenicity study of the Human Papilloma Virus vaccine in immunocompromised children; a study examining the effect of a hospital-based immunisation program on the parental attitudes and uptake of the influenza virus in chronically ill, high-risk children; and the burden of measles in, and contribution to Australian measles epidemics by, underimmunised immigrant populations. She will be working with Prof Raina MacIntyre and Dr Holly Seale, as well as other members of the team.
